GREEN PACKAGING – A NEW TREND IN GREEN INDUSTRY

News
20/07/2024

Currently, environmental protection campaigns are always of strong interest in the world such as the Earth Hour Campaign, or Making the World Cleaner, Plastic Kernels... with the desire to reduce environmental pollution as well as live in harmony with nature. For that reason, most of the above campaigns have attracted a large number of citizens around the world and their results have also partly aroused the awareness of protecting the surrounding environment and also formed new ideas such as:  Bowls and spoons from barley, reed straws... The special thing is that one of those initiatives is gradually becoming a global trend and is popular with everyone that we should mention, which is green packaging.

1. So why is green packaging gradually becoming a global trend?

Because plastic bags and plastic items are familiar products that are cheap and easy to use, but they cause serious harm to the environment and human health. As a result, there are many packaging manufacturers who have turned to green packaging products for the following reasons:

The material of green packaging is completely natural such as paper bags, paper boxes, banana leaves... so it is easy to destroy in a short time as well as not harmful to the environment and human health. In addition, they also have the function of packaging, preserving food, and storing takeaway to serve consumers. Therefore, they have the ability to replace plastic bags and plastic packaging as well as contribute to solving the situation of microplastic waste in Vietnam.

Besides, the diversity of designs and sizes of green packaging is increasingly meeting the needs of the vast majority of consumers. Moreover, the use of green packaging is also a form of showing its responsibility to the environment.

2. So how do countries around the world respond to the green packaging movement

Ther have been many bans or charges for the use and supply of plastic bags in the world such as: UK (2015), Mexico (2010), Australia (2008), France (2002)... And we can see some of the effects that this solution brings as follows:

In the US: San Francisco was the first city to ban the use of plastic bags in large stores, which saved 1.7 million liters of oil and limited the release of 1,400 tons of nylon waste into the environment. Therefore, these shop owners have used biodegradable bags produced from corn by-products to replace single-use plastic bags. Recently, the city of Los Angeles has also begun to apply similar measures.

In South Africa: The government has issued a ban on the use of nylon bags since May 2003. As a result, retailers who sell these bags to customers will be subject to a fine of 10,000 rand ($13,800) or 10 years in prison. Therefore, customers must bring their own bags when shopping or buy thick bags so that they can be recycled and save costs.

In Asia, the ban on plastic bags has been in place by China since mid-2008 and so far measures have continued to increase to support the ban. However, there have been positive signs from this ban when 24 trillion plastic bags have been reduced each year.

3. Enterprises that have taken actions towards the environment

The Coffee House: has launched product sets such as: bottles, porcelain cups, stainless steel straws, cloth straps along with other benefits when customers buy drinks in the form of takeaway and stored in The Coffee House's product sets. This has also encouraged customers to implement environmental protection habits as well as limit the number of plastic packaging used for each product.

Coca-Cola has also made new changes when switching Spire packaging from a typical green plastic bottle to a transparent PET bottle, as an effort to protect the environment. Because, PET plastic bottles are recyclable and bring higher values than the recycling industry.

And BioFix is also one of the companies that is gradually participating in social and community responsibility when it has replaced glass plastic packaging for 350ml products. Through this campaign, BioFix aims to raise consumer awareness and promote product recycling.

In general, we can see that each country and every business has different methods to reduce plastic waste, or plastic bags in the world. But everyone's destination is the same, they all want to live in harmony with nature and minimize environmental pollution.
